Mayor İmamoğlu: “Republic and Democracy are very good together”29 October 2019 Tuesday

IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu attended the ceremony held at the Governorship of Istanbul within the scope of 29 October Republic Day celebrations. After the ceremony here, İmamoğlu watched the official passage on Vatan Street. Speaking to the journalists here, İmamoğlu wished a happy republic feast. "I hope in many centuries we will celebrate our national day together. It's our biggest national day. A very special symbol for the unity and solidarity of our nation. This year, we especially say, ‘Long live the Republic, Long live the Democracy’. The two are very good together." said the Mayor.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, hosted by the City Governor Ali Yerlikaya within the scope of the Republic of Turkey's 96th anniversary celebrations, attended the ceremony held on Vatan Street, which was closed to the traffic.

The IMM senior managers also took part in the ceremony where 1st Army Commander General Musa Avsever and the Istanbul protocol delegates were present along with the representatives of foreign missions. After the ceremony here, İmamoglu attended the official parade on Vatan Street.

İmamoglu made evaluations to the journalists found here. “I hope we will celebrate our feast together in many centuries" said the Mayor and continued: “Our biggest national day, we come together, and stand arm in arm. A very special symbol for the unity and solidarity of our nation. We celebrate our national day in Istanbul. This year we especially say, ‘Long live the Republic, Long live the Democracy.’ The independence, freedom and consensus of the society... It is a very symbolic and valuable definition for the unification of everything around Republic. In this respect, with these feelings, peace and tranquility in many beautiful years, many beautiful centuries I wish."

The official ceremony began with Mayor İmamoğlu, Governor Yerlikaya and General Avsever's greeting the crowd on an open military vehicle going through Vatan Street filled by Istanbulites. The citizens living the enthusiasm of the feast with the Turkish flags in their hands sang the National Anthem.

During the ceremony, the land troops, air and navy forces, gendarmerie and the police officers of the Istanbul Police Department, students from the schools throughout the province, the Istanbul Fire Department and the Police Department of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, IMM Band Team and Scouting Organization and official veterans made official parades. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mehter Squad (Great Ottoman Military Band) marched with mehter anthems.
