Istanbul ready for winter22 November 2019 Friday
6 thousand 882 staff to prevent disruption of life in Istanbul with 373 thousand vehicles will serve. 60 critical points of the city will be monitored continuously with the BEUS system, pre-icing measures will be taken to prevent accidents.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), winter weather preparation meeting held within the scope of the fight against adverse weather conditions yesterday. In the meeting held at IMM Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) with the participation of institutions and organizations providing services to the city hosted by IMM, the efforts to combat snow-ice and ponding that were likely to occur in winter were discussed. IMM Deputy Secretary General Mehmet Murat Kalkanlı and Murat Yazıcı chaired the meeting; Fire Brigade, Road Maintenance and Infrastructure Coordination, Support Services, Rail Systems, Police, Mukhtars and Food, Health Departments, AKOM, White Table and other related directorates, İETT, İSKİ, İGDAŞ, İSTAÇ, İSFALT companies and Provincial Security Directorate, Highways General Directorate, İGA Airport Operations, Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge and ring road operator İCA company representative attended. At the meeting, all institutions serving Istanbul agreed to the importance of cooperation in order to prevent disruption in urban life by working in coordination.

400 INTERVENTION POINTS DETERMINED

At the meeting, efforts were made to ensure that the residents of Istanbul were not affected by the adverse conditions of the winter months and to continue the normal course of city life. In the city, the area of responsibility in the road network of 4 thousand 23 kilometers 400 points of intervention determined by the IMM, snow shoveling and salting teams will keep the roads ready to remain open. In coordination with the General Directorate of Highways teams affiliated to the Ministry of Transport, all kinds of support will be provided if needed.

Overpasses, bus stops, squares, bags and box salts in public areas, such as waiting for snow puddles and icing will be intervened by teams.

53 RESCUE DRIVER WILL WORK FOR 24 HOURS

In order to intervene in the traffic closed due to vehicle accidents and slippages at critical points of the Anatolian and European Side, 53 towing cranes will be kept ready for 24 hours. There will be 33 winter fighting vehicles in order to avoid any problems on the Metrobus route.

147 BLADE TRACTOR AT THE SERVICE OF VILLAGES

Attractive and rescuing vehicles on the main artery and surrounding roads will be kept ready, possible traffic accidents and being trapped on the road will be quickly intervened. To be used on village roads, 147 shoveling tractors will be given to the mukhtars to keep the far roads from the city center open.

60 CRITICAL POINTS TO BE FOLLOWED WITH BEUS

60 critical points for effective combat in winter conditions will be followed by BEUS (Icing Early Warning System). In critical points and intersections throughout Istanbul, salt bags for the use of citizens (10 thousand tons) will be left.

Mobile buffets in heavy snowfall, emergency services of hospitals, piers and roads waiting for drivers in traffic hot drinks, soup and water will be served.

THE HELP OF THE HOMEWORK WILL BE RUSHED

Shelter centers were also planned for people who did not have a specific residence due to their psychological, economic or social situation, who lived on the street or in abandoned spaces. Homeless citizens reported through IMM 153 White Table, 112 Emergency Call Center, Police Departments and Municipal Police; municipal police, police and ambulances will be taken after the health checks will be guests in IMM facilities. The guesthouses will be provided with facilities such as nutrition, shelter, basic health services, drug support service, self-care and hygiene, clothing aid and sending those who want to go to their hometown. The Directorate of Veterinary Services will continue to provide food support to our dear friends who are adversely affected by winter conditions until the seasonal conditions improve.

ALL WORKS WILL BE COORDINATED BY AKOM

Winter combat activities will be carried out under the coordination of AKOM. Snow shoveling and road works of the vehicles to be made on the designated routes will be followed by AKOM with the current vehicle tracking system and the vehicles will be directed to other regions when necessary.
