Between February 16-20, a training program was conducted in two separate sessions, equipping a total of 80 personnel from Bakırköy Municipality with both theoretical and practical knowledge on fire safety. During the training, participants gained awareness on many vital topics, from the processes of fire formation and prevention methods to emergency management and correct intervention techniques.

The presence of Bakırköy Mayor Ayşegül Ovalıoğlu and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Remzi Albayrak at the fire extinguishing drill held on the last day of the program added a special meaning and value. The staff of Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital received practical training on correct fire response and intervention techniques. Following the training, our Başakşehir fire team was dispatched to the scene around 14:00 following a simulated emergency call. Our team quickly arrived at the scene, rescued citizens trapped inside the building and affected by smoke, and handed them over to medical teams. After smoke evacuation, our team extinguished the fire, successfully completing the exercise. They then left the scene after taking a commemorative photograph.

578 new colleagues to Istanbul Fire Department

A graduation ceremony was held at the Cebeci Sports Complex for 578 new firefighters, 78 women and 500 men, who completed the "Basic Firefighter Training" organized by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Fire Department. The ceremony, which began with a moment of silence and the singing of the Turkish National Anthem, included a prayer for firefighters and various sports demonstrations. IMM Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan and IMM Deputy Secretary General Remzi Albayrak also gave speeches at the ceremony.

The Basic Firefighter Training, organized by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department, began on October 6, 2025, and concluded on January 23, 2026. Planned in accordance with the curriculum specified in the Municipal Fire Department Regulations, the training program consisted of 560 hours and lasted approximately 3.5 months. A total of 578 probationary firefighters, consisting of 78 women and 500 men, participated in the training program. The trainees received theoretical and practical training on numerous topics they might encounter throughout their careers, including firefighter safety, firefighting equipment, firefighting techniques, search and rescue in fires, rescue equipment, rescue skills, fire trucks, traffic accident response, hazardous materials, and forest fires.

Basic Firefighter Training Graduation Program

The Istanbul Fire Department continues to combine its century-long experience with the energy of its young recruits. The intensive training marathon, which began on October 6, 2025, and was prepared according to the standards of the Municipal Fire Department Regulations, concluded on January 23, 2026.

A Challenging 560-Hour Marathon
The training, conducted simultaneously at 24 different locations on both sides of Istanbul (18 stations and the Fire Training Center), involved prospective officers completing a curriculum totaling 560 hours. The young firefighters not only acquired theoretical knowledge but also specialized in a wide range of areas, from fire fighting techniques and search and rescue skills to hazardous materials handling and rescue operations in traffic accidents.

While "Firefighter Safety" was prioritized during the training, candidates received practical training on all kinds of scenarios they might encounter throughout their careers. Gaining competence in every area, from forest fires to the use of modern rescue equipment, the 578 new personnel will greatly contribute to Istanbul's vision of becoming a disaster-resilient city.

Graduation Excitement to be Experienced in Cebeci
A graduation ceremony will be held for our personnel who have successfully completed their training on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 11:00 at the IMM Cebeci Sports Complex. At the ceremony, the newly trained firefighters will present breathtaking sports demonstrations showcasing their technical skills, including motor pump races, climbing a tower with a hook ladder, and a PBI competition.

We bid farewell to our colleague Zikri ULUSOY, who attained martyrdom after suffering a heart attack while on duty at the Alibeyköy Fire Station.
Following a farewell ceremony at the Sultangazi Fire Station where he served, the body of our martyr Zikri ULUSOY was laid to rest at Hasdal Cemetery after the funeral prayer held at the Cengiz Topel Mosque in Kağıthane following the noon prayer. The funeral of our martyr was attended by a large crowd, including our Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General and Fire Department Head Remzi ALBAYRAK, our regional directors, his colleagues, friends, loved ones, and family.

Our martyr Zikri ULUSOY was born in 1967, was married, and the father of three children.

May Allah grant mercy to our martyr, and patience and strength to his grieving family and colleagues.
