Pakistani government officials visited AKOM for disaster risk management and Istanbul-based preparation, prevention and response activities as part of the World Bank's technical support program.
During the meeting between the delegations chaired by Remzi Albayrak, head of the Fire Department of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), officials of the Earthquake Ground Investigation Directorate and AKOM of the IMM briefed the Pakistani delegation.
The delegation shared information and experience on how to increase resistance to natural disasters. Natural disaster risk reduction activities at the provincial level between Pakistan and Turkey were discussed.
The IMM delegation also provided information about the seismic risk reduction and emergency preparedness project (ISMEP) in Istanbul and stated that they want Pakistan to benefit from Turkey's experience in natural disaster management at the highest level.
General Mohammad Afzal, head of National Disaster Risk Management of the government of Pakistan, said that they were very impressed by IMM's work on the earthquake and AKOM, and added that they had made a very useful visit.
