The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Fire Department opened the center where the supply and maintenance of clean air breathing apparatus (THSC) that firefighters can safely use in times of crisis are carried out. At the opening ceremony of the THSC Center, which has been put into service in Kağıthane, IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Kağıthane Mayor Mevlüt Öztekin, Eyüpsultan Mayor Mithat Bülent Özmen and IMM Deputy Secretary General Erdal Celal Aksoy each made speeches.
ALL INSPECTIONS WILL BE PERFORMED WITHIN IMM
According to the information provided by IMM Deputy Secretary General Aksoy; until now, the maintenance, repair and tests of clean air breathing devices actively used by nearly 5 thousand intervention personnel were carried out by outsourcing. Within the scope of the tests carried out every 5 years, only the hydrostatic inspections of air cylinders were carried out. With the opening center, it is aimed to ensure that the performance tests and routine maintenance of “Clean Air Breathing Set and Artificial Respirator Cylinders”, which are of vital importance for firefighting personnel, are carried out within the fire department. The center, which will also set an example for other city fire departments, is a first in Turkey due to its maintenance, repair and certification.
WHAT'S IN THE CENTER?
In addition to testing and repair activities, the THSC building also has a washing room and a tube test room. In the washing room, dirty and used masks coming from fire stations will be washed and disinfected here before being tested and then checked in the test device. Masks and backrests arriving at the facility will first be recorded, entered into the system and directed to the relevant process steps in order. After being washed and disinfected in a washing machine specially manufactured for this purpose, they will be subjected to computerized sealing and a number of performance tests. Equipment that successfully passes the test will be placed in special bags and packaged after the necessary maintenance is done, if needed, and sent to the station where it came from, ensuring its safe use.
EQUIPMENT THAT FAILS TO PASS THE TEST WILL BE TAKEN OUT OF USE
Equipment that fails to pass the test will be intervened. The part that requires replacement will be replaced or the relevant adjustments will be made and the test will be reconnected to the test device and tested. This cycle will continue until the equipment passes the test. Equipment that fails to pass the test despite all interventions will be taken out of use and recorded. There is also a 450 Bar breathing tube hydrostatic testing machine in the THSC building. Breathing tubes that are required to be hydrostatically tested every 5 years will be tested and labeled with this machine. Tubes that undergo any deformation or fail the test for any reason will be taken out of service and will not be allowed to be used. A high-quality compressor was installed in the THSC building to provide the necessary compressed air for these test activities.
After the speeches; the THSC Center was officially put into service with the ribbon cutting by CHP Party Assembly members Mahir Yüksel, Turgay Özcan, Berker Esen, CHP deputy Yunus Emre, İmamoğlu, Öztekin, Özmen, Silivri Mayor Bora Balcıoğlu and IMM Fire Department Director Remzi Albayrak.
