Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department (Istanbul Fire Department) carried out fire, search and rescue, water evacuation and emergency health services in 2024 with its 310 years of institutional experience, personal protective equipment and technological equipment at international standards.
10,738 PEOPLE RESCUED
Istanbul Fire Department, working with 4,583 personnel, responded to 24,948 fires that broke out during the year. A total of 10,738 people were rescued in these fires and taken to safe areas or handed over to health teams.
It provided rapid dispatch to urban and remote agricultural and forest areas with 917 vehicles and 133 stations.
The average response time to incidents was 6 minutes and 46 seconds.
IMPROPER AND CARELESS USE ARE IN THE FIRST PLACE
According to 2024 figures, 7,574 of the fires in the city occurred due to improper and careless use, and 6,598 occurred due to the use of a heat source for purposes other than its intended purpose. It was revealed that 56.8 of the total fires with a total of 14,172 incidents were caused by negligence and accidents. This was followed by 4,964 fires due to mechanical errors and malfunctions. A total of 24,948 fires were intervened due to other reasons.
A total of 11,500 structural fires (houses, workplaces, factories, vehicles, etc.) occurred. Of these fires, Residential Structures were the most intervened type of structure with 6,047. 2,604 fires occurred in warehouses, workplaces, offices and commercial structures. The number of vehicle fires was 1,890.
13,448 fires were intervened in non-structural agricultural areas and grasslands.
ESENYURT HAD THE MOST FIRES
Of the 24,948 fire incidents in the city, 1,769 occurred in Esenyurt. Arnavutköy followed Esenuyurt with 1,230 fires. The other districts with the most fires were Pendik with 1,162, Silivri with 1,130, Fatih with 1,086 and Küçükçekmece with 955. The districts with the fewest fires were Adalar with 61, Şile with 188, Beşiktaş with 248 and Bakırköy with 289. The Istanbul Fire Department also took part in extinguishing fires outside the province 17 times.
IT RESPONDED TO A TOTAL OF 132,327 INCIDENT
The Istanbul Fire Department also took part in emergency health services. It intervened in a total of 49,661 incidents. In addition, 18,472 animals such as cats, dogs, horses, birds, iguanas and eagles were rescued from where they were trapped or stranded. Istanbul Fire Department responded to a total of 132,327 incidents, including 7,287 search and rescue, 401 water evacuation and 31,558 other fire incidents.
