To keep the memory of the August 17, 1999 Marmara Earthquake alive, awareness campaigns and practical exercises were conducted to increase public awareness of disasters and promote the adoption of correct courses of action during disasters.
As part of the program, citizens were informed about earthquake preparedness, correct behavior during disasters, and necessary precautions.
In the drills conducted, building evacuation and safe assembly processes were practiced according to the scenario. First aid and fire extinguishing techniques were also practiced in case of a fire that might occur after an earthquake.
The Istanbul Fire Department continues its training, information, and drill activities aimed at increasing public awareness of disasters and emergencies, especially earthquakes.
We commemorate with respect and gratitude our citizens who lost their lives in the August 17, 1999 Marmara Earthquake.
