IMM to Hold International Earthquake Workshop For Istanbul2 December 2019 Monday
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) is holding the Istanbul Earthquake Workshop, which will take place at the Istanbul Congress Center (ICC) on December 2-3, 2019.

The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. and run until 6:30 p.m., with a keynote speech to be delivered by Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoğlu. Experts will then discuss the expected effects and precautions to be taken regarding the possible Istanbul earthquake. Information about what should be done during and after the earthquake will be the central focus of the workshop.

The workshop will bring together more than 700 participants including IMM executives, national and international academics, relevant ministries, governorships, institutes, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), foundations, associations and professionals from different disciplines and sectors to exchange information on the methods to address problems of earthquake hazard mitigation in Istanbul.

The Istanbul Earthquake Workshop will be based on the ten essential principles proposed by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) to create disaster resilient cities.

The project proposals will be in line with these 10 principles, and under 6 themes: Disaster Risk Management; Emergency Management and Recovery; Understanding Risk; Disaster Risk Financing and Transfer; Resilient Urban/Spatial Planning and Development; Ecosystems, Natural Resources and Climate Change Adaptation.

The aim of the workshop will be to adopt a scientifically-driven approach that incorporates the opinions of all relevant stakeholders, that will enlighten the roadmap of the IMM to ensure an earthquake-resilient Istanbul.
