Who is Kont Odön SZECHENY?
He was one of the executives of the Fire Department, which was extinguished successfully in Budapest with the biggest fire of the 19th century. Szecheny, who is one of the prominent managers of the Fire Department, which has served 52 years to the Fire Brigade in Budapest for 4 years and 48 years in Istanbul, sheds light to the present day with his knowledge and experience. Odön Szecheny, the youngest son of Count Istvan Szecheny, described as the great Hungarian patriot, was born on December 14, 1839 in Bratislava.
Szecheny also wrote the first Hungarian Firefighting Profession Book. This work, entitled "General experiences gained during the firefighting", was published in 1864. Szecheny supported the idea of the establishment of the National Fire Brigade and the union founded in 1871 elected him president.
Odön Szecheny, who successfully managed the biggest fire event of the era in Budapest with the fire brigade, was heard from the shares. Szecheny came to Istanbul in 1871 upon the invitation of Sultan Abdulaziz and began to establish and train military fire brigade. He was planning to take over the management of the fire brigade again in Budapest after returning home, thinking it would take him a year to complete it. However, when Sultan Abdülhamit II gave him the position of the Pasha, he resigned from Hungary and came to Istanbul and remained the head of the Istanbul Fire Brigade until his death (March 23, 1922).
