Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan attended the official ceremony at the Taksim Republic Monument on the occasion of the May 19th Atatürk Commemoration, Youth and Sports Day. Aslan was accompanied by CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik and his management team, as well as IMM bureaucrats. The ceremony began with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem, after which IMM Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan laid a wreath at the Atatürk Monument. Speaking after the wreath-laying ceremony, Aslan stated, “Exactly one hundred and seven years ago, when Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk arrived in Samsun from Istanbul, he left behind a city under occupation and within it a glimmer of hope. From that day to this, for one hundred and seven years, after the declaration of the republic and the achievement of independence, all the evolutions of the republic have been ingrained in this society. The republic is a one hundred and seven-year-old oak tree and will live forever. Today we are faced with various undemocratic and unlawful rules; but we will continue to protect the republic, which Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk entrusted to us. We have our youth, we have our hope, our enthusiasm is high! One way or another, under all circumstances, we will protect the republic.”
