IMM Provides Shelter to Homeless People.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) will provide shelter to homeless people during the winter months at Zeytinburnu Sports Complex and Kayışdağı Almshouse in Istanbul.

Mr. Hayri Baraçlı, the Secretary General of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Mr. Mevlüt Bulut, Deputy Secretary of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality toured the Zeytinburnu Sports Complex, where the homeless people were to sleep until somewhere else was found for them with members of the press.

Mr. Baraçlı said the municipality would once again provide housing to the homeless to protect them from low temperatures in the winter months. Around 1,306 people took refuge in the gym according to the municipality this year.

Mr. Baraçlı said that they would be ready for winter conditions with 1345 vehicles and 7000 personnel. He also mentioned that that they would be prepared to clean up Istanbul's web of 7373 km roads along 363 routes.

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) purchased a total of 245,000 tons of salt and 1,290 tons of solution for the Directorate of Road Maintenance and Restoration to use to clear snow and ice from the roads as a precaution against adverse conditions.

It recommended drivers equip their tires with snow chains and told them not to drive in the emergency lane. It added that that 48 staffed vehicles will help stranded drivers throughout the winter.
