An explosion followed by a fire occurred in a plastics factory on Eşref Bitlis Road in Hadımköy Hastane Neighbourhood, Arnavutköy for an unknown reason. The Fire Department was called at 16:55 and fire crews from Hadımköy, Kıraç, Arnavutköy, Beylikdüzü, Avcılar, Çatalca, Bakırköy, Gaziosmanpaşa, Başakşehir, Şişli, İkitelli, Fatih, Kocasinan, Beşiktaş, Seyrantepe and Kumburgaz stations attended the incident along with many ambulances. 142 firefighters in 48 fire engines, arriving at the scene soon, worked hard and extinguished the blaze. Four people injured by the explosion at the first stage of the incident were taken to hospital. Water-tenders from various directorates of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and water trucks from the neighbouring district municipalities were at the scene. The blaze resulted in great damage to the factory.
